The International Department of Omsk State University was formed in April of 1996. The department establishes and develops relations of university with institutions of higher education in other countries, organizes international conferences and meetings. One of the main functions of International Department is to provide consultations and visa - support to international students of OmSU. Right now students of such countries as Germany, China, South Korea, Italy and Turkey are studying at OmSU.
The International Department is also controlling the activity of Omsk State University's branches in Newly Independent States. OmSU has 3 branches in the republic of Kazakhstan and one branch in the republic of Uzbekistan. Over 600 students are studying there and it gives them an opportunity to obtain the higher education which corresponds to Russian standards.
Also there is a contract with Turkish educational fund "UFUK", according to which the teachers of republic of Turkey teach students of OmSU Turkish language, and the students of republic of Turkey learn Russian and later continue their studies on the main faculties of Omsk State University.
There are close relations between the university and the organization Civic Education Project, with the help of which the lecturers from USA come to OmSU to deliver the course of lectures in English on the faculty of International Business every year. There is a similar contract between Omsk State University and the State University of Western Ontario (Canada), according to which during the last 3 years there has been realization of "The Leader" project. According to this project the teachers from Canada were coming to OmSU to deliver the course of lectures in English on the faculty of International Business.
Right now there takes place the realization of students exchange joint educational project between Omsk State University and the State University of Florida (USA).
The agreement with Tomsk Regional non-commercial fund "Frankofon" was signed, which gave the students of Omsk an opportunity to study French and after the end of course obtain the diploma, enabling them to enter University of Sorbone and other 12 prestigious universities of France.
On 15th of September 1999 the International Department of Omsk State University, together with Omsk Scientific Pushkin Library organized the conference "International Educational programs - 2000". The coordinators of different exchange programs were invited to participate. At the conference there was also signed an agreement with Pushkin Library to create an Agency of International Educational Programs.
